KARACHI: In a surprise move Sindh Police has taken back administrative and financial control of Special Security Unit from Additional IGP Karachi.
According to an official notification issued from IGP Sindh office previous order regarding placement of Special Security Unit under Additional IGP Karachi has been withdrawn. The Additional IGP Karachi was assigned with SSU control through an order issued on April 8, 2016.
“Henceforth, administrative, operational and financial aspects of Special Security Unit will be dealt with by Central Police Office through Additional IGP Sindh”, the notification stated. According to the notification issued by DIG Headquarters, Munir Ahmed Shaikh the Additional IGP Sindh shall ensure that efficiency and logistics of SSU are maintained at the highest level and with best standards.
SSU was established in 2008. According to website of the SSU it is one of specialized units of Sindh Police that performs security and counter terrorism functions. In 2010 under directives of then President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari the SSU came in existence as a specialized security unit.
