KARACHI: Inclusion of Karachi Circular Railway in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor was deferred till the fresh feasibility of the project. China Railway Institute will conduct fresh feasibility of the KCR.
The decision was taken at Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor at its 7th meeting held on Tuesday.
Pakistan’s focal person for the CPEC, Ahsan Iqbal told journalists after the meeting that its original feasibility was prepared by the Japanese who claimed its intellectual property rights and hence its fresh feasibility study would be vetted by the China Railway Institute for subsequent inclusion in the CPEC framework.
It is pertinent to mention here that earlier Japanese development agency, Jica, was to finance the project, which was scheduled to be completed in 10 years. However, under special directives of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, it was decided that the project would be included in CPEC.
