KARACHI: Efforts are being taken to improve performance of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), getting it out of political influence and its revival as professional and independent body. This development has come after increased immigration problems in the country, unchecked money-laundering and some serious matters appeared about banking sector.
In this regard new Director General of the FIA, Bashir Memon has started picking up officers of good repute from all over the country. Memon himself possesses a good reputation in his service. After taking over the charge he has chosen officers of good repute from all the provinces. Majority of these officers belong to police.
Federal Interior Ministry in its office memorandum issued on September 8 has granted DG FIA’s requisition for posting of 17 officers in the FIA. Some 15 of them belong to PSP, while two officers are from AJK and NAB.
Five of them are presently posted at Establishment Division, those include Muhammad Azam, Shakeel Durrani, Dr. Amir Shaikh, Captain Shoaib and Munir Shaikh. Five officers are posted in Sindh Police. They are Younas Chandio, Salam Shaikh, Muhammad Wasi Haider, Mujahid Akbar and Javed Akbar Riaz.
Two officers, Ali Sher Jakhrani and Sheraz Kalhoro are presently posted in Balochsitan. Gohar Mushtaq Bhutta and Abdul Rab are posted in Punjab. While another officer, Jawaid Ahmed Khan is presently posted as Additional Director, NAB, Sindh. Similarly Khurram Rashed is posted in Khyber Pakhtunkha. Another officer, Kamran Ali is in AJK Police.
Initially services of six officers have been transferred to the FIA including Dr. Amir Shaikh and Ali Sher Jakhrani. Dr. Amir Shaikh has been appointed as Director Sindh region.
Interestingly both the friends, DG FIA, Bashir Memon and IG Police Sindh, A.D Khowaja, needed good officers in their teams at the same time. Picking up officers of good repute from Sindh Police by Bashir Memon can disturb A.D Khowaja due to shortage of good officers.
